Profil HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR

Merujuk dari reviewnya bung tetsu di blog iro-iro tentang single baru dari HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR yang berjudul "Remember", saya jadi tertarik untuk mendengarkan Haikara, nama sapaan dari HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR. Ternyata memang bener-bener sugoi..., lagu-lagu nya begitu menghentak karena haikara ini beraliran heavy metal dengan vokalis cwe yang lembut serta adanya paduan rap menjadikan lagu-lagu mereka terdengar begitu bersemangat. Karena itulah beberapa lagunya dijadikan soundtrack anime, seperti Ichirin no hana yang menjadi openingnya Bleach dan Pride yang dijadikan sebagai opening Gundam Seed Destiny.

Tapi menurut kabar yang beredar, sang vokalis maki-chan telah mengumumkan pengunduran dirinya,hiks...,tapi mengapa???memang kebiasaan band-band Jepang kalau sudah terkenal, mencapai puncaknya lalu bubar begitu saja, tapi banyak juga yang melakukan reuni lagi seperti sang legenda visual kei X-Japan, lalu Do As Infinity yang akhirnya reuni lagi. Yah semoga saja maki- chan berubah pikiran untuk keluar dari HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR.

MEMBERS

* Maki (Maki lahir di Urasoe, Okinawa, 23 Agustus 1987) (vokalis wanita),Nama asli: Maki Onaga (Onaga Maki), menyebut dirinya dalam blog milik band sebagai Makio.Setelah bertemu anggota nd Anti-Nobunaga, Maki membatalkan rencana?sekolah di Kanada. Maki menjadi peran utama dalam film Anata o Wasurenai karya sutradara Junji Hanad?.

* Yuusuke (Yuusuke lahir di Naha 25 Januari 1985).Machinegun Vox: vokal rap, death growl
Nama asli: Yosuke Kuniyoshi (Kuniyoshi Yosuke)Perannya dalam grup Anti-Nobunaga yang merupakan cikal bakal Haikara adalah sebagai vokalis utama.

* Kazuto (Kazuto lahir di Naha, 18 September 1984) (gitar)
Nama asli: Kazuto Heshiki (Heshiki Kazuto).Gitar utamanya adalah merek ESP yang dipesan khusus dan diberi nama Purple Haze.

* Meg (Meg lahir di Naha, 15 November 1984) (gitar)
Nama asli: Y?suke Ishikawa (Ishikawa Y?suke)
Gitar yang digunakannya merek ESP yang dipesan khusus dan diberi nama Rin.

* mACKAz (mACKAz lahir di Kochinda, Okinawa, 15 Juli 1984) (gitar bass)
Nama asli: Masakatsu Minei ( Minei Masakatsu)

* Sassy (Sassy lahir di Itoman, Okinawa, 23 Agustus 1984) (drum, pemimpin band)

Selain vokalis Maki, kelima anggota High and Mighty Color memulai karier musik mereka dengan grup heavy metal Anti-Nobunaga. Meg dan Sassy membentuk Anti-Nobunaga dengan bantuan teman sekelas mereka, Kazuto, mACKAz, dan Yuusuke. Mereka sering mengikuti kontes dan sering menang.

Pada musim panas tahun 2003, Anti-Nobunaga muncul dalam konser yang diadakan Spice Records yang pernah mengorbitkan Orange Range. Anti-Nobunaga diikutsertakan dalam album CD kompilasi Okinawa 2003. Setelah bergabungnya vokalis wanita Maki (waktu itu berusia 17), mereka berenam menamakan band baru mereka sebagai High and Mighty Color. Penampilan publik yang pertama adalah di festival "Music Picnic" yang diadakan Spice Music, September 2004.[1]

Debut mereka dengan perusahaan rekaman besar dimulai 26 Januari 2005. Singel perdana "Pride" dijadikan lagu pembuka serial anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny musim kedua. Singel tersebut sempat menempati tangga singel Oricon di urutan nomor dua, dan terus laku hingga lebih dari 300 ribu keping.[2] Sepanjang Maret hingga April 2005, mereka mengadakan 7 kali pertunjukan di 7 kota dalam tur yang diberi nama "Free Live Showcase Tour 2005". Setelah itu, mereka merilis "Over" dan "Run Run Run" sebagai singel kedua dan ketiga.

Setelah tur musim panas "Bipartite Rock Tour" yang juga dilangsungkan di 7 kota, mereka merilis singel ke-4, "Days" dan album pertama, Go Over. Singel ke-5, "Style -get glory in this hand-" dijadikan image song untuk permainan video Shinobido: Way of The Ninja di PlayStation 2. Masih di akhir tahun yang sama, High and Mighty Color menerima Japan Record Award ke-47 sebagai Artis Pendatang Baru Terbaik.

Tahun 2006 dimulai mereka dengan tur musim dingin "Shake Now Baby '06" di 3 kota. Singel ke-6, "Ichirin no Hana" digunakan sebagai lagu pembuka serial anime Bleach musim ke-3 (episode 52-74 yang ditayangkan mulai 11 Januari 2006 di Jepang). Singel tersebut menjadi singel kedua mereka yang menempati tangga lagu Oricon di urutan nomor dua setelah "Pride".Di Amerika Serikat, album Go Over dirilis pada tanggal 21 Maret 2006.

Album kedua mereka, Gou on Progressive dirilis 5 April 2006 dan diikuti dengan tur keliling "Live Bee Loud". Hingga di akhir tahun 2006, Haikara merilis 2 buah singel lagi, singel ke-7 "Dive into Yourself" dan ""Enrai -Tooku ni Aru Akari-".

Awal tahun 2007 diawali dengan dirilisnya singel ke-9, "Tadoritsuku Basho" / "Oxalis", dan mulai diputarnya film yang dibintangi Maki, Anata o Wasurenai (26 Year Diary) di bioskop-bioskop Jepang. Lagu "Tadoritsuku Basho" dipakai sebagai lagu tema, dan "Oxalis" sebagai lagu sisipan.

Setelah album ke-3 San yang dirilis 21 Februari 2007, mereka merilis singel ke-10, "Dreams" (1 Agustus 2007) yang dipakai sebagai lagu penutup serial anime Darker than Black.

Formation and Anti-Nobunaga

The band started with the members MEG and SASSY working in a Metallica cover band. The two founding members played in this band for two years before they decided that they wanted to go further with their talents than just cover songs. After leaving the band, Sassy offered mACKAz the opportunity to join, he accepted and invited long time friend Kazuto to join the band as well. Oddly, the vocalist was the final member to join the original band. MEG sat in on a school performance one day and one voice stood out to him. MEG offered Yuusuke the chance to join the band; he initially rejected this due to wanting to be a solo singer, but joined after MEG reportedly asked him to join every day for nearly four months. The band, known as Anti-Nobunaga at this time, played mainly in small coffee shops and art theaters for about a year. They had relative success during this period and eventually wanted to reach a larger market than just the local market. SASSY, the band leader, sent demo tapes to every major Japanese label, all of whom rejected the band. It was not until a small Japanese label signed the band that they found their first big break. The band was now playing areas further from their local Okinawa until they landed a spot at the yearly music festival of Okinawa.

Maakii and the Music Festival

During the summer of 2003, at a yearly music festival in Okinawa, the band's label hyped their spot and eventually they ended up playing for a sold out crowd. Due to this festival being a "per show" ticket selling one, it meant that Anti-Nobunaga was the only band to play for a sell out crowd. A scout for a subsidiary of Sony Music Japan was in the crowd and offered the band the chance to produce their own album. The band then went hard to work on their first album and after three months released "Okinawa 2003". At another festival known as the "Music Picnic Festival", vocalist Maakii also grabbed the attention of the same scout that found Anti-Nobunaga. The scout felt that both projects on their own were not remarkable, but combined, the band could be something never before seen on the Japanese music scene. Maakii first rejected the offer due to wanting to go to Canada to study English and pursue a solo career. It was in fact Yuusuke, the band's other vocalist, that convinced her to join the band. With the addition of Maakii the band took on a new name, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR (also called HiKara, HaMC, and Handmc). After six months of perfecting their craft, the band was moved up from SMJ's minor label to their major label, in league with bands such as Orange Range. They spent much of 2004 writing and recording, in late 2004 they released their first single, "Over" which was only sold through Tower Record stores. It sold out in the time frame of a month and became immensely scarce, thus it was re-released the next year. The album sat at number one spot of the Indy Oricon charts for an entire month.

2005

During 2005, the band released their first official singled, titled "PRIDE", it was originally to be attached to a Japanese football event being held at the same time but was picked up for something else. A Sunrise music partner was looking for a song to use for Gundam SEED Destiny and PRIDE was chosen to be that song. At the time, Gundam SEED Destiny was the number one rated anime in Japan, and being attached to this helped PRIDE's sales immensely. With a final sell count of 223,208 copies, PRIDE remains the band's best selling single since the official start of their public career.

Over the next year, the band went on a media blitz, performing for shows such as Music Fighter, Music Station and HEY HEY HEY at various times. During August, the band released "Days", their 4th single and currently their lowest selling single, selling only 7,679 copies and not breaking the top 20 mark on the Oricon charts. Despite this setback, the band was still honored with the Japanese Record Grand Prix's Rookie of the Year award and Maakii's grandmother who had just passed away was given a tribute just before their performance.

2006

In April 2006, the band released their second album after only releasing two singles for the album. The album sold less copies than their original album, but it stayed on the Oricon charts longer and managed to gain a higher peak position than their first album. The band's first single of the year was "Ichirin no Hana" (一輪の花, One Lone Flower) and was used as the third opening to the anime Bleach. This was the first and currently only single to break the top five mark on the Oricon charts since their debut with "PRIDE". They also played their first American concert at an anime convention on April 28th.

The band then went on a large scale Japanese tour. They played 65 venues over the course of the next five months. They released their 7th single, "DIVE into YOURSELF", in August. The song was used as the opening song for the video game Sengoku BASARA II. This was the band's second lowest selling single and was also their lowest ranking single among the Oricon charts, only managing to reach the 24th spot on the weekly charts. Their 8th single "Enrai~Tooku ni Aru Akari" was released on October 25th and entered the charts 12 spots higher than "DIVE into YOURSELF" at the 12th spot.

2007

Maakii will be making her acting debut in December 2006 and the band will be doing the theme song for the movie "Anata wo Wasurenai". Tadoritsuku Basho/Okizarisu will be their 9th single, it will be their first single for 2007 and it will also be a double A-Side single.

Personal Information

The band is relatively low key with their personal information, releasing only minuscule amounts of information over the years. Maakii's real name is Masaki Itsushima, this was discovered as her name on the Japanese fan forums for the band. She has since confirmed that it is her real name. Kazuto's real name is Kazuto Kanzu, mACKAz's real name has been discovered to be Masakatsu Minei, Yuusuke's real name is Yuusuke Yushishiro, band mate MEG also shares the same first name as Yuusuke with a slight variation in spelling. The band's other details are kept even more private, like most Japanese music stars, very little is known about their personal lives at all.The 12th single "Flashback" was released on February 27, 2008. It will be the second double-a side single from the band and will be used in promotion with the anime series Hero Tales. [11] [12] Their 4th album ROCK PIT was released on March 19 and became their lowest selling album to date.
2008:
The band began their 4th volume in their LIVE BEE LOUD tour on March 17, 2008 at the famous Club Quattro of Japan. [13] They then went on to preform at 13 other venues across the country with the final venue being their hometown of Okinawa. Their next single will be a cover of T.M. Revolution's early single, Hot Limit.On July 1st, 2008, it was announced that Maki was married to DREAMS COME TRUE singer Masato Nakamura on June 22nd, 2008 and would be leaving the band by the end of 2008. In her parting message, Maki thanked her fellow band members and all of their fans for supporting her and the group for such a long time. No plans to add another member have been made yet, but the band is expected to continue on without Maki. [14] A special event is planned for Maki's graduation from the band as well as at least one more single before she leaves the band. It was also announced that the band will begin searching for a new vocalist early 2009.
